It’s Pacman Fever Friday at Joystix Houston tonight! It happens twice a month, but I usually only hit up the one on the last Friday, and it’s my favorite day of the month! Jammin out to some 80s electro this morning to get started right!
So happy to be donating this jacket back to the USS Sea Owl Association. The association is made up of the crew from this submarine, which saw action in WWII, all the way up until the end of the 1960s. Sea Owl Wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Sea_Owl_(SS-405)
Did some reorganization up at the shop this weekend. It looked so pretty, we decided to use some photos of it as a cover on Facebook and also on the Etsy shop. I added the top rack, to display handmade t-shirt pillows, and we added some shiny new signage as well. Come out and visit us inside Retropolis in Houston, or at the Etsy shop any time! http://www.etsy.com/shop/jswvintage
Found this postcard in a shop today. I picked it up because the retro look just really intrigued me. After we got home I looked up the name on the rear: Grossinger’s NY. It turns out this place has become an abandoned property. It’s totally wild to see the before and after. More photos can be seen at the link below.
I don’t buy too many books, as I just can’t often find the time to read. I’m a huge fan of Dostoevsky, and I always search out older copies of his stuff. I’m not sure I could call myself a huge fan of Tolstoy, but I can say that, The Death Of Ivan Ilyich goes down as one of my favorite stories of all time. I stumbled across this 1950s copy of The Cossacks this weekend, and I just had to have it. There’s nothing terribly unique about it, but I love it!
Great weekend for shopping and heading south for a little sand and Po-Boys! On Friday we hit up some of our usual shopping spots, which were abnormally crowded due to spring break, but we definitely came away with some great purchases. I even picked up a fabulous vintage navy Dooney & Bourke bucket bag for myself at a steal for 22 bucks. Even though we knew the spring break crowd wouldn’t be our usual scene, we decided to hit the beach anyway.
Good thing we did, because we side tripped it to a pretty fantastic little antique store where we picked up a nice haul of vintage clothes from a variety of eras (50s, 60s, and 70s mostly). As you can see from the photo we stocked up on more spring & summer clothes in a variety of colors and patterns. The dresses are pretty rad and very psychedelic, and would be great for any of the upcoming music festivals! All and all it was a good weekend for a quick little trip.
